Domain Theft

Report Stolen Domain

If one of your domain names has been stolen, one of the best things you can do is list it in the DomainTheft.org database. At DomainTheft.org we are working hard to encourage everyone to check our database before purchasing a domain. If your stolen domain name is listed in our database this could prevent the thief from selling your name making it much easier to recover.

There is absolutely no cost to add your name to our database, however we do require that you follow our identify verification process so we can verify your identity and previous ownership of the domain. The verification process is as follows:

  1. Theft Reported to DomainTheft.org
  2. You will receive a phone call from one of our agents
  3. Two forms of identification must be sent to DomainTheft.org to verify your identity
  4. Previous WHOIS check completed to verify you owned the domain during the period specified

Once we have verified your identity and validated the WHOIS information we then complete a rigorous process to verify the theft. To make sure that our database is accurate we give the current registrant listed on the WHOIS record a very fair chance to contest the theft.

You have the option of adding your domain to our database publicly or privately. While a public listing will make it harder for a thief to sell a stolen domain we respect your privacy and allow you to list this privatly so only our partners can access this data to prevent the domain from being listed and sold on a public marketplace.
